American Black Bear

Although they're seldom seen and have never injured anyone at the Resort, we share the mountain with
Black Bears. They may be seen in the area from April to November, perhaps nearest from late-June through
September as they follow the ripening berries and acorns.

Never leave food outside. Bears roam constantly, looking for food; if they don't find any, they move on.
Keep all food and garbage stored inside a structure, car trunk or bear-proof container, never in your tent.

Remember: A fed bear is a dead bear. Allowing a bear to obtain human food, even once, can result in them becoming a threat to human safety and necessitate their removal or destruction. Please help keep people at
SMR safe and protect these beautiful animals! Report bear encounters to the Office.
